about

a quiet studio,
a slow practice.

I was born in Belgium (1965) and have lived in Austria for over 30 years, formerly in Vienna and now in the Weinviertel region. I'm actually a trained translator, and I've been working in a bookstore for many years.

But. All those years, art was in the air, so to speak — numerous relatives and acquaintances are/were artists or at least art-loving.

I was always interested in how to draw things, how color, perspective, and shading work, how materials behave, how to find inspiration, and whether you can simply do whatever you want, however you want. About eight years ago, I put pencil to paper, then paint to canvas, collected materials and experiences good and bad, and never stopped.

Over time, I've learnt to express my own perception of the world. I generally paint what appears before my eyes, but with the aim of capturing and communicating the fugitive emotion evoked by an object that resonates with my inner experience.

I love playing with light, shadows, and reflections to create compositions that are both harmonious and dynamic. Oil and soft pastel are my preferred mediums, as they allow me to achieve a wide variety of textures and effects.

My relatively traditional style actually arises from the tension between idea, skill and material behavior.

I have experimented a lot in all directions, giving myself the freedom to waste materials but also to recycle them, to apply certain methods or to discard them. For example, in oil painting I do not use solvents and almost only use palette knives.

Art took me by surprise. Now it brings me peace and excitement, distraction and focus, an island of freedom, and even magic in my everyday life.
